A new MSNBC poll is up right now for JU voters to check out.

The Poll Question Is:

Do you agree with President Bush when he likens the struggle against Islamic fundamentalism with the fight against Nazis and communists?

The Options are:

Yes. Bin Laden and others are the Hitlers and Stalins of our times.

Maybe. But I'm going to need some more convincing one way or the other.

No. This is just dishonest, warmongering designed to scare voters about national security in time for this fall's elections.

The results, as of this moment of posting are, 44%, 4.1%, and 52%, respectively. Make your voice heard and vote NOW!

You all know which option I picked, which one did you pick, JU?

attempts by bush and rumsfeld to compare their war in iraq with wwii may be close to accurate in one respect. we officialy entered combat in december 1941 and fought until japan surrendered in august 1945--a total of 44 months. us troops will have been fighting in iraq for 44 months in november 2006.

Hmm, fascinating for numerologists.

I would ask how you voted in the poll, but I think I know how you voted.

Where is the option to answer: this poll is dishonest and doesn't offer enough valid choices to really determine anything?

Agreed.

I'll just take "C" and answer to the best of my ability...

The analogy doesn't completely work, because with Nazis we had established governments and nations to go to war against. However, that is no reason to not fight the problem.

Nazis and Islamist Extremists do have one major thing in common. Both kill to get their point across. Niether are interested in diplomacy or comprimise. I'd like to know just ONE time that negotiating with either didn't weaken their adversary and strengthen them...

To them, talk is cheap, it is for cowards. When we seek a ceasefire, it only emboldens them. We talk of "drawdowns" "ceasefire agreements" and "timetables for withdrawal"... which in their eyes only means, "when can we quit".

To negotiate with a terrorist or a nazi is to admit that we don't care about our own freedom enough to kill them over it. Strange though, they are perfectly willing to kill to take freedom from anyone who disagrees with them.

You can't negotiate with Bacteria, you simply kill it, or it kills you.

P.S. of course, most Americans seem to have the historic perspective of a fruit fly lately, so it doesn't surprise me that they think Islamist terrorism started when Prs. Bush took office.
